The shape of these plates are inspired by traditional Japanese white bread called shokupan. This slab technique looks simple but is actually very time consuming. As there is a difference in shrinkage time between the raised edge and the flat section during the drying faze, I had to constantly flatten and turn them over. Every two hours over 2 days.
The inside layer is coated with a white slip before the first bisque firing. In preparation for the final firing the shokupan plate is coated with a kanyu glaze and then fired again.
Using Australian Stoneware Clay.
Fired at 1280°C with unique Japanese Glazes.
As pieces are handmade, no two pieces are identical therefore each ordered piece may vary somewhat from the pictures.
Dishwasher safe but handwash is safest.
